Nickelodeon Riviera Maya Review (2026): Ages Decide It
Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya for a family of four: who it suits, where it really is, what a week costs and the month to book.

Quick answer: Nickelodeon Riviera Maya
- Nickelodeon Riviera Maya is worth it for a family of four with Nick-loving kids aged 4 to 9, because its 6-acre Aqua Nick water park is in the rate; Karisma quotes a promotional $7,114 for a January week (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- Karisma lists it at kilometer 45 of the Cancun-Tulum highway in Puerto Morelos, a 29-minute drive from Cancun International Airport (as of September 2026, sources: Karisma Hotels, OpenStreetMap).
- The rate includes Aqua Nick's 21 slides, meals, drinks and the character shows, and every one of the 280 suites sleeps up to five (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- KAYAK's monthly averages run $800 a night in January to $1,079 in July for an unstated party size, though the same page names February the low season and August the high (as of September 2026, source: KAYAK).
- It's one of three open Nickelodeon resorts, with Punta Cana and Antalya; Orlando's Nick hotel closed in 2016 and the Kissimmee one isn't open (as of September 2026, sources: Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, Wikipedia).
- Skip it if your youngest is 10 or older and past the characters, or you haven't picked a coast yet: start with Cancun vs Riviera Maya for families.
- Below: the July week that Karisma quotes at a promotional $7,600, and the afternoon Aqua Nick ticket that gets non-guests in from 1 p.m.
The costly mistake is booking the school summer break by default. On Karisma's own promotional quotes a July week costs $486 more than a January one, KAYAK's averages put the gap far wider, and July sits inside the Atlantic hurricane season (as of September 2026, sources: Karisma Hotels, KAYAK, NOAA National Hurricane Center). The week-cost table prices both, and the Family Budget Calculator prices yours.
Is Nickelodeon Riviera Maya worth it?
Nickelodeon Riviera Maya is worth it if your kids are 4 to 9 and know the characters, because the 6-acre Aqua Nick water park and the chance to meet Nickelodeon characters come with the room (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). The roster runs from SpongeBob SquarePants and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Dora, Blue, Wanda and Cosmo, and the water park has a PAW Patrol play zone.
Age 10 is where the value thins. Aqua Nick's own day tickets charge the adult price from age 10 and the child price for ages 3 to 9 (as of September 2026, source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya). The resort still suits older kids who love slides, but the characters that set its price apart may not interest them.
Guests rate the resort 4.7 out of 5 across 8,698 Google reviews (as of September 2026, source: Google). One parent on Tripadvisor wrote in April 2025 that the kids club was a hit with their 6- and 8-year-old and gave the adults time to relax. Another Tripadvisor reviewer called it not worth the money and found the room layout crowded, while still praising the water park.
Who should skip Nickelodeon Riviera Maya?
Run the Skip-If Filter before you price anything. Skip this resort if one of these fits your family:
- Your youngest is 10 or older and no longer watches Nick: the characters are what this resort's price buys.
- Your room budget is under about $7,050 for seven nights, Karisma's cheapest January quote for two adults and two kids (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- Warm pool water matters to your swimmers: Karisma notes that the resort's pools are not heated (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- You're choosing between the two Caribbean Nick resorts: our Nickelodeon Riviera Maya vs Punta Cana comparison makes that call.
- Only a September week works for you: that is the peak of hurricane season (as of September 2026, source: NOAA National Hurricane Center).
If none of those apply and your kids are 4 to 9, book it. The water park your kids came for is already in the price.
Where is Nickelodeon Riviera Maya, and how far is it from Cancun airport?
Nickelodeon Riviera Maya sits at kilometer 45 of the Cancun-Tulum highway, 32.4 km or about 29 minutes' drive from Cancun International Airport (as of September 2026, sources: Karisma Hotels, OpenStreetMap). Karisma, the company that runs it, gives its address as Puerto Morelos. Some booking sites, including Tripadvisor and Costco Travel, file it under Playa del Carmen instead. By road it's 24.1 km, or 21 minutes, north of Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue (as of September 2026, source: OpenStreetMap).
The 29 minutes is a free-flow estimate: it leaves out traffic and the airport pickup, so allow extra time with kids and bags. Karisma says the resort has direct beach access (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
You may not need to pay for that drive. Karisma's own offers for this resort list a free airport-hotel-airport transfer, so read what your rate includes before you book a van (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
If your booking excludes transfers, a private van for four to seven people to USA Transfers' Puerto Morelos zone costs $60.34 one way or $103.45 round trip, plus tax (as of September 2026, source: USA Transfers). Confirm that kilometer 45 falls in that zone when you book.
Check the transfer line on your confirmation before you fly. With two kids and a car-seat bag, a ride that is already arranged beats sorting one out at arrivals.
Which Nickelodeon resorts are open in 2026?
Three Nickelodeon resorts are open in 2026: Riviera Maya in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Antalya in Türkiye, which opened in 2025 (as of September 2026, source: Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts). Riviera Maya, open since August 2021, is the only one in Mexico (as of September 2026, source: Wikipedia).
Nickelodeon's hotel history is easy to mix up. The original Nick Suites Orlando, officially Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn, ran from 2005 to 2016 and is a Holiday Inn Resort now (as of September 2026, source: Wikipedia).
A new Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Orlando is planned for Kissimmee, Florida, but it isn't on the brand's list of open resorts, and its developer is still selling condos in it (as of September 2026, sources: Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, Everest Place). Wikipedia lists it as scheduled to open by 2028.
California has one on the drawing board as well. The City of Garden Grove lists a proposed Nickelodeon Resort with 500 guest suites on a 3.72-acre Harbor Boulevard site, and the city still describes it as proposed, not built (as of September 2026, source: City of Garden Grove).
For a US family booking now, the choice is Riviera Maya or Punta Cana. If that's your question, read Nickelodeon Riviera Maya vs Punta Cana for families, then come back for the Mexico numbers.
How much does Nickelodeon Riviera Maya cost for a family of four?
Karisma quotes $7,114 for a January week for two adults and two kids, in the Swim-Up Oceanfront Queen Suite it sells to families of four, with taxes and the airport transfer included (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). That is a sale price, not a plain rate. It is Karisma's direct price under its current Endless Escapes promotion, and the terms give you until November 12, 2026 to book it. The quoted week is January 9 to 16, 2027. The party is two adults and children aged 7 and 9. The same suite and the same party in July comes to a promotional $7,600, for July 10 to 17, 2027. Without the promotion, the same suite lists at $16,268 for that January week and $23,632 for the July one. Flights come on top.
The Real-Cost Test asks what the week costs once you add what the nightly rate leaves out. Here there is almost nothing to add, because the meals, the drinks, the water park and the airport transfer are all in the rate. The basket: two adults, two kids aged 3 to 9, one suite, seven nights.
| Seven nights, one suite | A night | Week total | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Karisma direct, January week | $1,016.28 | $7,114 | Two adults and two kids, all-inclusive, taxes and the airport transfer in, on the Endless Escapes promotion |
| Karisma direct, July week | $1,085.71 | $7,600 | The same suite and the same party, seven nights in July, same promotion |
| KAYAK monthly average, January | $800 | $5,600 | The room only, for a party size KAYAK does not state |
| KAYAK monthly average, July | $1,079 | $7,553 | The room only, for a party size KAYAK does not state |
| July minus January, Karisma direct | $69.43 | $486 | The summer premium on the resort's own promotional rates |
Sources: a live quote from Karisma Hotels' own booking engine, taken on September 27, 2026. The quote covers one Swim-Up Oceanfront Queen Suite, all-inclusive with taxes, for two adults and two children aged 7 and 9. The weeks quoted are January 9 to 16 and July 10 to 17, 2027. Both weeks are priced under Karisma's current Endless Escapes promotion, which its terms limit to bookings made by November 12, 2026. Without the promotion the same suite lists at $16,268 for the January week and $23,632 for the July week. The second reading is KAYAK's monthly average nightly rates for Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya (read September 2026). Karisma's offers for this resort include the round-trip airport transfer, so no transfer cost is added. Both readings exclude flights.
KAYAK's figures are averages of prices its users found over the last 12 months, not a quote for your party. KAYAK doesn't say how many guests its averages cover, and its live deals are quoted for two guests, which is why we price the suite on Karisma's own engine too (as of September 2026, source: KAYAK).
Karisma publishes no full rate card, but it does print a starting price. Its offer page lists the resort from $345 per person per night on the Nick Jr. Friends Event, for stays between September 7 and November 1, 2026 (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). Per person is the basis, so a suite holding two adults and two kids costs well above a two-guest average.
KAYAK's season summary on the same page names February as the low season and August as the high season (as of September 2026, source: KAYAK). Its monthly averages put January lowest and July highest, so treat both winter months as the cheap window.
Why the nightly rate looks high
A full day at Aqua Nick on its own costs $596 for two adults and two kids aged 3 to 9, on Splash Bites, the cheapest ticket with no afternoon-only restriction (as of September 2026, source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya). That's more than half of the $1,016 Karisma charges for a January night in the suite, before the meals, the drinks or the bed.
What may cost extra: Aqua Nick's ticket site marks cabanas and personalized Super Sliming as extra-cost add-ons (as of September 2026, source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya). Karisma lists character dining as an experience but publishes no price for it, so ask before you book.
Book January or February if your dates bend: on Karisma's own promotional quote the same suite costs $486 less in January, and KAYAK's averages put the summer premium far wider. Price it in two tabs, Nickelodeon Riviera Maya rates on Expedia next to Karisma's own booking page, and take the cheaper one.
What does the all-inclusive rate cover?
The all-inclusive rate covers your suite, meals, premium drinks, concierge service, unlimited Aqua Nick and the character meet-ups (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). Karisma's property sheet lists six restaurants, three bars, one pool and one spa.
- Aqua Nick: 21 slides, a lazy river and an adventure river, with early entry for hotel guests from 9 a.m. (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- Club Nick: a free-play clubhouse with a mega ball pit, a two-story slide and a daily schedule of character-themed activities.
- Shows: Slime Time Live, a game show with a Nickelodeon host and Team Nick, plus the Orange Carpet Event on the Main Stage.
- Baby gear: a crib, highchair and other essentials can be delivered to your suite at no charge (as of September 2026, source: Experiences by Nickelodeon).
Karisma's offers for this resort also list a free airport-hotel-airport transfer, so check that line on your booking (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). Budget separately for flights, and ask about sliming sessions, cabanas and Náay Spa treatments, which Karisma's pages don't list as included. The water park, meals and shows are paid for once you book.
Which suite should a family of four book?
Book a Swim-Up Oceanfront Queen Suite: two queen beds, a sofa bed and two bathrooms in 581 square feet, with an infinity plunge pool off the terrace (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). It sleeps two adults and three children aged 3 to 12, so four fit with room to spare.
Every suite at the resort is designed for families of up to five, with a swim-up infinity pool and a sea view (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). Pool Deck Level suites open straight onto the main pool instead of a private plunge pool. Connecting suites sleep five, and the Penthouse Swim-Up Oceanfront Connecting Suite sleeps 10.
The top rooms are the rooftop Signature Suites: the Pineapple Suite, the Lair Suite and the Big Kahuna Suite (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). They are a different budget: Karisma's booking engine quotes the Lair Suite at a promotional $44,469 for the same January week for four (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
Pick Pool Deck Level if your kids will live in the main pool; pick an upper-floor oceanfront suite if you want a private plunge pool for bedtime swims.
Is there a day pass for Nickelodeon Resort Riviera Maya?
Yes: Aqua Nick sells day tickets to non-guests, but the cheapest one is an afternoon ticket. The Aqua Park ticket gets you in from 1 p.m. and costs a family of four $476 (as of September 2026, source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya). For a whole day, the cheapest is Splash Bites at $596 for the same four. The day-ticket table lists each price by age and what it includes.
| Aqua Nick ticket | Ages 10 and up | Ages 3 to 9 | Two adults and two kids 3 to 9 | What the ticket adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aqua Park | $139 | $99 | $476 | Entry from 1 p.m. only: park, snacks, drinks, towels and loungers |
| Splash Bites | $169 | $129 | $596 | The same, with no afternoon-only restriction on entry |
| Aqua Ride | $189 | $149 | $676 | Splash Bites plus shared transportation to the park |
| Aqua Bistro | $199 | $159 | $716 | Splash Bites plus the Nick Bistro restaurant |
| Fun Ride | $229 | $179 | $816 | Splash Bites plus Nick Bistro and shared transportation |
Source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya's own ticket page, prices in US dollars and inclusions as listed there (read September 2026). Only the Aqua Park ticket states an entry time, from 1 p.m.; the others list admission with no stated start. Every ticket includes snacks at the Aqua Bites kiosks, soft drinks, water and beer, towels and loungers. Lockers, photos, private cabanas and personal sliming cost extra.
Day guests get the water park, its Super Sliming event and the Team Nick games. Hotel guests get unlimited access instead, with early entry from 9 a.m. (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
Buy the afternoon Aqua Park ticket if you're staying at another Riviera Maya resort and half a day of slides is enough, and step up to Splash Bites if you want the morning too. Book the stay if the characters, the suite pools and the evening shows are the point.
When is the best time to go to Nickelodeon Riviera Maya?
January or February is the best time to go: both fall outside the Atlantic hurricane season and are KAYAK's lowest-priced months (as of September 2026, sources: KAYAK, NOAA National Hurricane Center). KAYAK's monthly averages run from $800 a night in January to $1,079 in July.
KAYAK's season summary on the same page names February as the low season and August as the high season (as of September 2026, source: KAYAK). Either way, the priciest weeks fall in the summer school break.
The hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks on September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October (as of September 2026, source: NOAA National Hurricane Center).
Seaweed is the other summer variable. In August 2026, sargassum amounts were falling but still above the 75th percentile of past years in most regions, and the University of South Florida lab expected them to keep dropping until possibly November (as of September 2026, source: University of South Florida Optical Oceanography Lab). Check a live sargassum report the week before a summer trip.
Book January or February. If school calendars force a summer trip, budget at least KAYAK's $1,079 July average and buy travel insurance that covers hurricanes.
What is there to do at Nickelodeon Riviera Maya, by age?
Under-4s get PAW Patrol Adventure Bay, which Aqua Nick built for ages 0 to 3 (as of September 2026, source: Aqua Nick Riviera Maya). Bigger kids head for the 21 slides and the 59-foot Soak Summit Tower. Every attraction has its own height rule, so check the sign before the climb (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
Ages 0 to 3
PAW Patrol Adventure Bay has four small slides, water cannons and a tipping bucket. The 1,100-foot lazy river is shallow enough that Karisma pitches it to its youngest guests (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). Club Nick's ball pit and two-story slide are the dry-land break.
Ages 4 to 9
This is the sweet spot. Bikini Bottom Beach, a SpongeBob water playground, has slides, water guns and tipping buckets. Plan this age group's days around Slime Time Live, the daily Super Sliming event and the character meet-and-greets at Character Spot (as of September 2026, source: Experiences by Nickelodeon).
Ages 10 and up
Soak Summit's thrill slides include The Big Plunge, a trapdoor drop into a horizontal loop, and Riptide Rush (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). The Snick Lounge adds music and live sports broadcasts (as of September 2026, source: Experiences by Nickelodeon).
Off the resort: cenotes and Mayan ruins
The nearest big day trips are short drives (as of September 2026, source: OpenStreetMap):
- Cenote Siete Bocas on the Ruta de los Cenotes: 31 minutes.
- Parque Xcaret: 30 minutes.
- The Tulum ruins: 69 minutes.
- Chichén Itzá: 150 minutes each way.
Plan one day off the resort for kids 6 and up, and keep it to about half an hour's drive. Save Chichén Itzá for kids who can handle five hours in the car.
How should you plan the days?
Plan each day around one big morning and one big afternoon, the One-and-One Day Structure, with the pool filling the gaps. Use the 9 a.m. early entry for guests at Aqua Nick, and leave the evening for the Main Stage.
- Arrival day: transfer, check-in, the suite pool.
- Water park day: Aqua Nick at 9 a.m., Club Nick after lunch, Slime Time Live at night.
- Character day: a meet-and-greet in the morning, the beach in the afternoon.
- Day trip (kids 6 and up): a cenote or Xcaret in the morning, back for the pool.
- Rest day: no plans past the pool and the beach.
Five nights fits this rhythm once; seven lets you repeat your family's favorite day.
What should you pack?
Pack water shoes or flip-flops, swimsuits, sunscreen, sunglasses and hats: that's Aqua Nick's own list (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels).
- Leave snacks at the suite: outside food and drinks aren't allowed in the water park.
- Bring EpiPens, antihistamines and asthma medications: Aqua Nick allows them in.
- Skip the travel crib: the resort delivers a crib and highchair to the suite (as of September 2026, source: Experiences by Nickelodeon).
Pack light on baby gear and heavy on swimwear; two suits per child keeps one drying.
Our take
Nickelodeon Riviera Maya is the right pick for a family of four whose kids are 4 to 9 and know the characters. Karisma quotes $7,114 for a January week in one suite on its current Endless Escapes promotion, with taxes and the airport transfer in (as of September 2026, source: Karisma Hotels). The water park, the shows and the meals are in the rate, and Aqua Nick's day tickets show that the park alone is worth more than half a January night.
Two things flip the call. If your youngest is 10 or older, the characters that set this resort apart may not land, so look at the wider coast first in Cancun vs Riviera Maya for families. If you're weighing the Dominican Republic resort, Nickelodeon Riviera Maya vs Punta Cana makes that choice by age and budget. Price your own dates in the Family Budget Calculator.

Data Sources and Verification
We read Karisma Hotels, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, Aqua Nick, KAYAK, USA Transfers, NOAA and University of South Florida pages in September 2026, measured drives on OpenStreetMap from Karisma's published coordinates, and priced a family of four on Karisma's own booking engine: two adults and two kids, one suite, seven nights.

How we checked these figures
Resort facts come from Karisma Hotels' own Riviera Maya pages, read on September 27, 2026. The property page gives the spec block, the accommodations page gives the suites and their occupancy, and the Riviera Maya Aqua Nick page gives the water park and its FAQ. Karisma's schema gives the address as kilometer 45 of the Cancun-Tulum highway, and its accommodations page names Puerto Morelos. OpenStreetMap's municipal boundaries put the resort's published coordinates in Playa del Carmen (Solidaridad) municipality, which may be why some booking sites list Playa del Carmen; we print the operator's address. The week prices are a live quote from Karisma's own booking engine, taken on September 27, 2026 for two adults and two children aged 7 and 9 in one Swim-Up Oceanfront Queen Suite, all-inclusive with taxes, for January 9 to 16 and July 10 to 17, 2027. The engine applied Karisma's Endless Escapes promotion, whose terms limit it to bookings made by November 12, 2026. The same suite's non-promotional totals on those pages were $16,268 and $23,632. Karisma's offers for this resort list a free airport-hotel-airport transfer, so we add no transfer cost to those weeks; USA Transfers' private round-trip price for 4 to 7 people to its Puerto Morelos zone is printed only for bookings that exclude a transfer. We print KAYAK's monthly averages for the resort beside the direct quote as a second reading. Those averages are prices KAYAK users found rather than a quote, KAYAK does not state the party size behind them, and its live deals are quoted for two guests. The same KAYAK page's season summary names February as the low season and August as the high season, so we print both readings. Karisma publishes no full rate card, and we quote the from-price on its offer page with the per-person-per-night basis it states. Guest early entry is the 9 a.m. time on Karisma's Riviera Maya Aqua Nick FAQ; the brand-wide FAQ on the same pages says 10:00 a.m., so we print the property-specific time. Day-ticket prices and inclusions come from Aqua Nick's own ticket page, where only the Aqua Park ticket states an entry time, from 1 p.m. Drive times are OSRM free-flow routes on OpenStreetMap data from Karisma's published coordinates (20.7951628, -86.9307437) to Cancun International Airport, Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen, Parque Xcaret, Cenote Siete Bocas, the Tulum archaeological zone and Chichén Itzá; real traffic adds time. The Garden Grove project comes from the City of Garden Grove's own economic development page. The Google rating was read from the resort's knowledge panel in a September 2026 search. Tripadvisor comments are paraphrased from the review snippets linked above.
