Is Punta Cana Cheap? $7,713 a Week for Four, Month Decides
Every line of a seven-night Punta Cana week for two adults and two children, priced from the platforms and government pages that publish the numbers.

Quick Answer
- Punta Cana is cheap for the Caribbean, not cheap outright: a New York family of four pays $7,713 for seven nights, all in except airport transfers and excursions, because airfare and the resort are 96% (as of October 2026, sources: KAYAK airfare, our resort build).
- The same week costs $6,188 from Miami, where round trips average $372 a person, against $679 a person from Dallas or Fort Worth (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK).
- Most families land between $6,200 and $8,300, the band our kid-friendly resort shortlist and our average family vacation cost table both print, each on its own basket rather than the itemized build on this page.
- Skip this page if you are choosing a property rather than pricing a week: the resort is the heavy line here at $4,500 to $6,000 for seven nights (as of February 2026, source: our own component build), and our all-inclusive family resort shortlist prices properties one by one.
- Entry and exit fees add nothing to the total: the US$10 tourist card has sat inside your airfare since April 2018, and the US$20 departure tax usually does too (as of October 2026, source: Punta Cana International Airport).
- Further down, what the $1,228 gap between the cheapest and dearest departure city does to your total, and the $2,499 the calendar moves on the hotel line alone.
The $7,713 is a build, not a quote: every purchased line comes from the platform or the government that publishes it, read on 6 October 2026, and the resort line is our own component build. The basket is two adults and two children aged about six and ten, seven nights, mid-range all-inclusive. Start with the full build in "What a Punta Cana week costs a family of four", then put your own dates into the Family Budget Calculator.
What a Punta Cana week costs a family of four
A Punta Cana week runs $6,188 to $9,142 for a family of four, and $7,713 is the middle of that for an East Coast departure. Those three numbers are how much it costs to go to Punta Cana for seven nights with two children, priced line by line rather than bought as a package. The three columns are not tiers of luxury. They are the same week bought from a different airport, at a different point in the fare range.
| Line item | Budget week, Miami | Typical week, New York | Peak week, New York |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round-trip airfare, four people | $1,488 | $2,188 | $2,792 |
| All-inclusive resort, 7 nights | $4,500 | $5,250 | $6,000 |
| Tourist card and departure tax | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Tips and on-resort extras | $200 | $275 | $350 |
| Excursions and off-resort meals | not priced here | not priced here | not priced here |
| Airport transfers | not priced here | not priced here | not priced here |
| Total | $6,188 | $7,713 | $9,142 |
| Where most families land: $6,200 to $8,300. Airfare is each route's 12-month round-trip average, and in the peak column the top of that range (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK). The resort, tips and extras lines are our own component build (as of February 2026, source: our own component build). | |||
Two lines carry the week. Airfare and the resort are $5,988 of the $6,188 budget column, and 96% of the peak column as well. That is why cutting a day trip or packing your own sunscreen moves so little. The excursion row is blank on purpose: no Punta Cana operator we could reach publishes a rate card we were willing to quote, and the day-trip question belongs to our Punta Cana family guide.
What a flight to Punta Cana costs, by departure city
Airfare is the line your address decides, and it swings $1,228 for a family of four between the cheapest and the dearest of five major US departure cities. Miami is the outlier: at $372 round trip a person it runs $175 a head under the New York average and $307 under Dallas or Fort Worth.
| Departure city | Lowest | Average | Highest | Four people at the average |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miami | $296 | $372 | $473 | $1,488 |
| New York | $409 | $547 | $698 | $2,188 |
| Chicago | $408 | $557 | $735 | $2,228 |
| Los Angeles | $495 | $598 | $742 | $2,392 |
| Dallas or Fort Worth | $534 | $679 | $867 | $2,716 |
Read the low column as your target, not your expectation. KAYAK calls anything under $409 a good deal on the New York route and anything under $534 a good deal from Dallas or Fort Worth. A family that books well lands near the bottom of its own row. A family that books late pays the top. The gap between those two outcomes is $1,156 for four people from New York, close to a quarter of the resort week. Price your own row before you commit: check current fares to Punta Cana from your own airport on Expedia and hold what you see against the average for your city.
Chicago averages more than New York, and Los Angeles, ten and a half hours away with a stop, costs only $41 a person more than Chicago. Distance is not doing the work here. Nonstop capacity is.
What the resort week costs, and why it is most of the bill
The resort is $4,500 to $6,000 for seven nights for a family of four at a mid-range all-inclusive (as of February 2026, source: our own component build). That is more than twice the East Coast airfare and about three quarters of the budget column. No resort site we could reach publishes a seven-night family rate, so the figure is our own component build rather than a platform read. Our kid-friendly resort shortlist is the one other page of ours priced against it.
The independent check is the area-wide hotel data. KAYAK tells you to expect around $212 a night for a four-star hotel in Punta Cana and $499 a night for a five-star, with prices varying by date (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK). Those are room rates for two, not family all-inclusive rooms with meals for four, so a seven-night family line above both tiers is what you would expect.
Two things follow. A family of four never gets the headline nightly rate on a deal site, because that rate is two people sharing. And the resort tier you pick moves less than the week you pick. For which property fits which kid ages, our all-inclusive family resort shortlist does the ranking and names the rates property by property.
What the all-inclusive does not cover
Four lines, and together they are a few hundred dollars rather than a few thousand. Apply the Real-Cost Test, which asks what the list price leaves out: in Punta Cana that is tips, the sales tax on anything you buy on the ground, and one airport extra you can decline.
- Entry and exit fees: nothing. Executive Order 430-17 folded the US$10 tourist card into the airfare in April 2018. The US$20 departure tax is usually in the ticket too (as of October 2026, source: Punta Cana International Airport), and the airport still tells you to confirm with your carrier.
- Tax on taxed goods and services you buy on the ground: 18%. That is the ITBIS rate on taxed transfers of goods and the provision of services, set at 18% (as of October 2026, source: Direccion General de Impuestos Internos). Article 23 of Ley 253-12 has fixed it there since 2016. It bites on souvenirs, pharmacy runs and off-property meals, the spending that sits outside your all-inclusive price.
- Tips and on-resort extras. Budget $200 to $350 across the week for a family of four, the same line the itemized table carries (as of February 2026, source: our own component build), and treat it as part of the fare.
- The VIP arrivals lounge. Punta Cana International charges US$85 a guest for arrivals in a party of three or more and US$175 a guest for departures, both plus 18% tax. For four people that is $401.20 on the way in and $826.00 on the way out. Skipping it is the easiest cut on this page.
Motorized water sports, spa treatments and off-resort day trips are the other exclusions, and we will not price them. No operator we could fetch published a rate for a family of four on a stated date, so that line stays open.
Airport transfers and resort fees sit outside this build too, and the rest of our coverage does not treat them the same way. Our all-inclusive family resort shortlist puts transfers to the Bavaro resort zone at $60 to $120 round trip. Our kid-friendly resort shortlist folds transfers and a day trip into the same $6,200 to $8,300 band, a wider basket than the itemized week table on this page. It still reaches the same floor, because it assumes East Coast flights of $1,400 to $1,800 for four against the $2,188 New York average priced here. Our average family vacation cost table puts Punta Cana resort fees at $30 to $50 a night. It prints the same $6,200 to $8,300 band on a narrower basket that leaves out flights, airport transfers and off-resort excursions. This build prices none of that, because its resort line is a seven-night package figure, not a nightly rate with fees stacked on it. Treat the $30 to $50 as a line to confirm with your own property.
The cheapest time to visit Punta Cana is September, and the month moves $2,499
September is the cheapest time to visit Punta Cana on price, at an area-wide hotel average of $442 a night against $799 in February (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK). Over seven nights that gap moves $2,499 on the hotel line alone, nearly twice the largest airfare swing any of the five hubs shows.
| Line | Cheapest | Dearest | Swing for a family of four |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel, per night, area average | September, $442 | February, $799 | $2,499 over 7 nights |
| Airfare from New York | January, $435 | August, $203 more | $812 |
| Airfare from Miami | February, $292 | June, $159 more | $636 |
| Airfare from Chicago | January, $421 | June, $235 more | $940 |
| Airfare from Los Angeles | January, $463 | June, $208 more | $832 |
| Airfare from Dallas or Fort Worth | February, $492 | November, $326 more | $1,304 |
The two calendars point in opposite directions. January and February are the cheapest months to fly from all five hubs. February is the dearest month to sleep in Punta Cana. A family chasing the cheap February fare hands back more on the hotel line than it saved on the plane. Move the same week to September and you pay the hotel floor instead.
September is also peak hurricane season, a real cost in flexible fares and insurance rather than in nightly rates. That trade is a go or no-go call, not a pricing one, so our Punta Cana family guide makes it and this page stops at the money.
Ways to cut the cost
Four levers move real money here, in order of size.
- Move the week off February. Worth up to $2,499 on the hotel line, and more than any booking trick here.
- Check in on a Wednesday. It is the cheapest check-in day in Punta Cana at $516 a night area-wide against $659 on a Friday (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK). That is $143 a night before you change anything else.
- Fly from the cheapest airport you can reach. A family within driving distance of Miami saves $700 against the New York average and $1,228 against Dallas or Fort Worth, which pays for a positioning flight several times over.
- Take the resort's own offer before a third-party deal. Club Med Punta Cana, for one, advertises up to $300 of instant savings a person a week and runs a kids' club for ages 4 to 17 (as of October 2026, source: Club Med). That is a real discount with a club that covers both children in this basket, not a headline rate.
What does not move much: skipping one excursion, packing your own sunscreen, declining the ocean-view upgrade. They are worth a few hundred dollars between them. The week is decided before you get to any of them.
Is Punta Cana cheap, then?
It is cheap for the Caribbean and not cheap for a family of four, and both halves are the answer. How expensive Punta Cana is depends entirely on what you are holding it against. $6,188 at the low end buys seven nights, four sets of flights, every meal and every drink. Against a comparable week in Turks and Caicos, as our Punta Cana and Turks and Caicos comparison sets out, it is thousands of dollars less.
It is not cheap from the West Coast, where airfare alone is $2,392 at the average and the saving against a closer island narrows fast. It is not cheap in February, when the hotel average rises $357 a night. And it is not cheap if you want a week of day trips, because that line sits outside the all-inclusive and nobody publishes what it costs.
Our number is higher than a per-person package rate, deliberately. KAYAK logged $90 a night for the cheapest three-star room in Punta Cana over a recent two-week window (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK). That is a rate for two people sharing, not a week for four. Two rooms or one family room, four sets of flights and seven nights of meals are what the itemized week table prices.
Our take
$7,713 is the East Coast middle of a Punta Cana week for four, and the month you pick moves it more than the airport does. Book September rather than February, fly from the cheapest airport within three hours of your house, and stop optimizing after that. Those two decisions are worth more than $3,000 on a seven-night week for four, and everything else here is worth a few hundred.
If your only possible window is a February school break from the West Coast, price a closer destination first. The two lines that make Punta Cana good value are both working against you that month. Our Caribbean islands for families guide is the faster way to make that call than pricing each island one at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the average cost of a Punta Cana trip?
A Punta Cana all-inclusive week costs a family of four $6,188 to $9,142 all in except airport transfers and excursions, in 2026. Most families land between $6,200 and $8,300, and the East Coast middle is $7,713. That covers the resort, round-trip flights for four, entry and exit fees, tips and on-resort extras. Excursions, off-resort meals and airport transfers sit outside the figure.
How far does $1 go in the Dominican Republic?
$1 only has to cover tips and souvenirs inside a Punta Cana all-inclusive, because the $4,500 to $6,000 resort line has already paid for the meals, drinks, kids' clubs and pools. Outside the resort it goes less far than the exchange rate suggests, because the ITBIS sales tax adds 18% to taxed goods and services. Article 23 of Ley 253-12 has fixed that rate since 2016.
What's the cheapest month to go to Punta Cana?
September is the cheapest month to stay, at an area-wide hotel average of $442 a night against $799 in February, which is a $2,499 difference over seven nights in 2026. The cheapest month to fly is different: January from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, February from Miami and from Dallas or Fort Worth. September is also the peak of hurricane season, so the saving comes with a flexibility cost.
What is the cheapest all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana?
$90 a night was the cheapest three-star room found in Punta Cana over a recent two-week window (as of October 2026, source: KAYAK), and that is a floor for two people sharing, not a family week. We do not rank resorts by price on this page, because a nightly rate for two is not the same thing as a week for four. For the named picks and their current rates, including the budget tier, see our all-inclusive family resort shortlist for Punta Cana.
Is $100 a lot in the Dominican Republic?
At a Punta Cana all-inclusive, $100 is about a third to a half of the $200 to $350 a family of four spends on tips and on-resort extras across the week. That is not a week's spending money. Off the resort it goes less far, because the 18% ITBIS sits on taxed goods and services. It is not enough to cover a family day trip, which sits outside the all-inclusive entirely.
Is 20 USD a lot in Dominican?
At a Punta Cana all-inclusive, $20 is under one day's tips and on-resort extras for a family of four, on the $200 to $350 that line costs across the week in 2026. It is not a meaningful share of the week. The two lines that decide your total are the resort at $4,500 to $6,000 and the flights for four, and both are settled before you land.
Which is safer, Mexico or the Dominican Republic?
Both sit at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, on the US Department of State travel advisory list, so the official answer is that they rank the same. The Dominican Republic entry is dated 12 June 2025 and the Mexico entry 29 May 2026. For how that plays out across the resort zones families actually book, our Cancun and Punta Cana comparison and our three-way Caribbean all-inclusive comparison both carry it.
What's included in the Punta Cana all-inclusive price?
One upfront price of $4,500 to $6,000 for seven nights covers all meals, drinks including beer, wine, house spirits and soft drinks, kids' clubs, pools, non-motorized water sports and evening entertainment. That is the price for a family of four in 2026. Outside it: motorized water sports, spa treatments, off-resort meals, day trips, airport transfers and tips. Entry and exit fees are not an exclusion, because the US$10 tourist card and the US$20 departure tax are normally inside your airfare.

Every externally published figure here was read on 6 October 2026 on the site that owns it, for two adults and two children, seven nights, mid-range all-inclusive, from five US departure hubs; the resort, tips and extras lines are our own component build, dated February 2026. Airfare and hotel figures are KAYAK's own published averages; fees and tax rates are from the airport and the Dominican tax authority.

How we checked these figures
Airfare rows are KAYAK's published 12-month round-trip range and average for each city pair, read on 6 October 2026, multiplied by four for the family line. The cheapest and dearest months per route are KAYAK's own, from the same page and the same 12-month window. Hotel figures are KAYAK's Punta Cana area averages, quoted for a double room and for 3, 4 and 5-star tiers rather than for a family all-inclusive room. They are used here as a cross-check on the resort line, not as the resort line itself. The resort line of $4,500 to $6,000 for seven nights for a family of four, and the $200 to $350 tips and on-resort extras line with it, are our own component build (as of February 2026, source: our own component build), carried across to our kid-friendly resort shortlist. Entry fees, the departure tax and the VIP lounge rates are from Punta Cana International Airport's own pages. The ITBIS rate is from the Dominican tax authority. Advisory levels and dates come from the State Department advisory feed, because the individual advisory pages block automated reads.
What we did not obtain: a published rate for any Punta Cana excursion, day trip or off-resort family meal. Scape Park's attraction pages carry no prices, Viator and several resort booking engines blocked us, and the operator page for one well-known dolphin park served prices for its Jamaican site instead of its Dominican one. Rather than quote a number we could not source, the excursion row is left open in the table and the question is handed to our Punta Cana family guide. We also quote no currency exchange rate, because the Banco Central de la Republica Dominicana site could not be reached on a valid certificate.
Fares and nightly rates move. These were read on 6 October 2026 and are worth re-checking before you book.
